Writing Challenge - Day 9

Post Some Words of Wisdom That Really Speak To You

I have definitely heard my fair share or wisdom in my days.  Some speak to me, some I feel are just words.  But here are a few that have always resonated with me:

1.  Pick Your Battles

This one took me a long time to learn.  But once I did, life got simpler.  I used to think I had to fight every battle, but I slowly realized, not all are worth fighting for.  This rings true especially in parenting.  With three teenage boys I have come to learn that there will be battles to fight, but it's important to know which ones are worth fighting, and which ones are better left alone.  Sometimes you do more harm than good fighting a battle you know you will not win.

2. Be True to Yourself

I used to try to please people all the time. I wanted everyone to like me, and then one day, I just stopped.  I realized I'd rather have four quarters than 100 pennies. And I learned that being true to who I was will attract the right people, and in the end, will make me a lot happier.

3.  Own Your Mistakes

I have said this kids countless times.  When they screw up, instead of making excuses, just own it.  Own your mistakes and you find you receive forgiveness a lot faster than if you try to explain your mistakes.  Just own it, and move on.
